Alzheimer and Dementia Caregiver Support Group
The Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands Caregiver Support Program offers this monthly support group in South Country Library to caregivers for those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. This support group will link caregivers, family and friends of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia with other caregivers to provide information and support.

Music & Memory Program
The library offers the Music & Memory program for adults in the South Country community who are living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Music, tailored specifically for the user, can open up pathways in the brain and can help temporarily restore their sense of self. If you know someone who you think would benefit from this therapeutic program, fill out a questionnaire and we will create a personalized playlist on an iPod to loan you at no charge.
Child Health Plus & Family Health Plus
A representative from the Nassau/Suffolk Hospital Council will be at the library to assist with enrollment in public health insurance programs including Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus. They will assist you in enrolling in plans via the health insurance marketplace in accordance with the Affordable Care Act and also provide information on Medicaid, Healthy NY, the NY Bridge program and sliding scale clinics.
Wednesdays, May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, September 13, October 11, November 8, and December 13 from 3-6pm in community room A.
Senior Advocate
Every other month, a representative from the Suffolk County Office of the Aging visits the Library to assist seniors with forms/applications and answer questions regarding county programs and services. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by Island Harvest
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food. SNAP helps low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families. Eligibility and benefit levels are based on household size, income and other factors. Alternating Mondays & Wednesdays.
